Community Member Profile: Deven and Che!
Many days at 12 Baskets, we're busy inside preparing for another meal, only to be greeted with another big food delivery from Che and Dev. These deliveries are always fun, because they're accompanied by Dev's BIG smile, his positivity, his infectious excitement, and some awesome, loud music!
12 Baskets only has food to serve because a committed tribe of folks takes the time to get in their personal cars, meet up with our food donation partners, and load as many bins and boxes as they can into their vehicles, only to navigate back to West Asheville and bring them to us. Many of our food delivery folks aren't able to spend much time in the cafe, so we build relationships with them through countless deliveries over weeks and months. This is how we have come to know and love Che and Dev, and they have helped share abundance with countless folks at the cafe due to their tireless, consistent, and loving efforts. We are so grateful for them both!
In their own words:
Che and Dev, a mom and son team, have been volunteering with 12 Baskets Cafe pretty much since the beginning, when Shannon started the initiative. We both love helping to feed the people. Food is medicine, and love helps the medicine work even better. We both feel so good knowing we are supporting our community and helping others feel loved and respected. Deven loves all his friends at 12 Baskets, and knowing y'all appreciate him makes him feel so good!
For the last several years, Deven and Che have been reliable and consistent food pick-up volunteers picking up food from Whole Foods and Earth Fare for the community at 12 Baskets Cafe.
